A 59-year-old Lee’s Summit science teacher was killed Thursday morning in a rollover accident north of St. James, Mo.

A 59-year-old Lee’s Summit science teacher was killed Thursday morning in a rollover accident north of St. James, Mo.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Glenda K. Dowler was driving a 2004 Toyota Solara south on Missouri 68, two miles north of St. James in Phelps County.

The accident occurred as the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and returned to the road. The vehicle slid off the right side of the road and overturned, ejecting Dowler. According to the highway patrol report, Dowler was wearing a seat belt. The county coroner pronounced Dowler dead at the scene at 9:18 a.m.

Passenger Eden M. Dowler, 32, of Raytown, suffered minor injuries and declined treatment at the scene. She also was wearing a seat belt.

Glenda Dowler taught at Lee’s Summit North High School and had previously taught at Lee’s Summit High School, said Janice Phelan, spokeswoman for the Lee’s Summit School District. She had taught in the district for about 30 years, Phelan said.
