Rockhurst High School football coach Tony Severino was selected as the West squad coach by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The annual event pits the best football players in the nation against each other. Severino will lead his team on Jan. 7, 2012, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Severino is a member of the Missouri Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He’s got more than 41 years of coaching experience and has been named Missouri Coach of the Year seven times.

In 2000, he was named the National Coach of the Year. In 28 seasons at Rockhurst, he has compiled a 269-60-1 record. He’s won seven state championships with the Hawklets and one at Shawnee Mission Northwest (Kan.) High School. He is the only coach to win state titles in Missouri and Kansas.

“I have been very fortunate as a coach to have received many honors and awards, but to be named a head coach for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl is one of the most prestigious honors any coach can receive,” said Coach Severino. “Just to be associated with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and to be named the head coach is an honor that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
