A man and a woman were arrested Thursday afternoon following gunfire during a road rage incident on Interstate 70.
Independence police spokesperson Tom Gentry said the two were arrested for taking shots at another vehicle while the two vehicles traveled on I-70. Gentry said multiple shots were fired and that at least one bullet struck the victim’s car, hitting the tire.
No one was injured during the conflict, Gentry said.
“There were multiple shots fired by the one car at the other and at least one bullet struck the victim’s vehicle, flattening the tire,” Gentry said.
The incident began on I-70 near the Lee’s Summit Road exit as the vehicles were traveling east. The vehicles traveled as far as Missouri 7 in Blue Springs before turning around and heading back west on I-70. Gentry said police thought multiple shots were fired while the vehicles were traveling both ways.
Police pursued the vehicles before stopping a gold, four-door Honda on Lee’s Summit Road just north of I-70 near the intersection of East 41st Street, across from St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. The male driver and his female passenger were taken into custody and are being held with charges pending.
