n Tryouts: The Yard Baseball Club (YBC), an age 15-16 showcase team in Jackson County, is looking for a few 15-16 year old players ready to play ball at a high level. Team will serve as a feeder team for the YBC 18U college showcase team. Players for YBC 15-16 team will demonstrate defensive/offensive/pitching skills, athleticism, energy and high baseball acumen. n Tryouts: 12U AA Wolverines seeking coachable athletes who can play multiple positions, have sound fundamentals and hustle. Must also have good attitude and strong desire to play and progress in the game of baseball. All positions are open for competition. This will be evaluated at each practice and game. Playing time will be earned,not given. Pitching, catching, middle infielder and strong hitters are a plus. Also need a strong outfielder who can also pitch and play middle infield. Team will have ongoing tryouts until it can build a solid 2013 spring/summer roster to finish out 11U season. Triathlon
n Jackson County Triathlon presented by Elite Cycling is taking registrations for event on Aug. 18 at Longview Lake beach. More than 600 athletes compete in this event, which features running, cycling and swimming. There are short and long courses and relays for both. The long course is a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40K bike ride and 5-mile run. Short course is 750-meter swim, 11.75-mile bike ride and a 5K (3.1-mile) run. There is also a short-course duathlon of a 1.4-mile run, 11.75-mile bike ride and another 5K run. Races begin at 7:30 a.m. The top five overall, male and female, will receive prizes in long course triathlon and short-course triathlon and duathlon. Regular registration ends Aug. 11 and late registration (with extra costs) will run through Aug. 17. No race day registration is allowed.
