Joshua Stephens of Buckner was suffering from a two-month drought from the winner’s circle.
Stephens busted out of that Friday night, charging from the No. 4 starting position to claim a feature victory in the Valley Sprints division at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley.
Stephens held off another hard-charging driver, Chris Parkinson of Gladstone, who challenged for the lead after starting eighth.
Cody Baker of Lone Jack (sixth), the pole winner, and Chad Tye of Independence (10th) also earned top 10 finishes.
Stephens was the lone local driver to triumph Friday. Bill O’Bryan of Independence took second to Belton’s Anthony Lane in the Dirt Demons feature.
Jerry Schmidt of Independence started third and finished third in the Street Stocks feature, which Bobby Raybourn of Holden won. Josh Poe of Drexel prevailed in the USRA B-Modifieds feature as Kameron Grindstaff of Independence took fifth.
On Saturday, Dillon Raffurty of Independence kept his hot streak going, edging pole-sitter Jeff Raffurty of Hallsville, Mo., for the win. Steve Clancy of Odessa won from the pole position in the 600cc Micro Sprints feature, edging Columbia’s Drew Shively.
