Matthew Tyler Allen, 16, the son of Steve and Shelly Allen of Independence, and younger brother of Samantha Allen, has received his Eagle Scout rank. He joined Boy Scout Troop 206, sponsored by St. Mark’s United Methodist Church of Independence in 2003. He has earned 27 merit badges and has served his troop in different leadership positions, including Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Scribe, Troop Guide and is currently the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He has reached brotherhood in Order of the Arrow and is currently a Fire Builder in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. His tribal name is Young Slick-Tongued Silver Fox. For his Eagle project he designed, organized, obtained donations and led a group of scouts and adults to build a sand pit and pull-up bar station for the pole-vaulters on the Fort Osage Track Team. Matthew is a sophomore at Fort Osage High School. He is a member of the Red and White Brigade Marching Band, Fort Osage Soccer Team, Fort Osage Track Team and National Honor Society. Outside of school, he is active in Taekwondo, Independence Youth Court and the Truman Heartland Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council. He attends the Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene and is involved in the youth group.
