The Fort Osage Adult Education Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technology Academy is accepting students.

This is an evening program that allows participants to earn the following credentials in less than one year - Firefighter I Certification, Firefighter II Certification, Hazmat Awareness Certification, Hazmat Operations Certification, AHA CPR for the Health Care Provider and Emergency Medical Technician - Basic. These credentials are the basic requirements for employment or membership in most urban and rural paid or volunteer fire service organizations. The Fort Osage program has been preparing students to enter these career fields since 1994. All instructors are active duty firefighters, paramedics and EMTs. Students must be 18, and a high school diploma or GED must be presented the first evening of class. In addition, students must have a valid Missouri Drivers license and current TB test. Students will be required to have a clean background check. The class size is limited to 20, and there must be at least eight in the class. Classes meet 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays starting Aug. 27. The fee is $2,500. A deposit is due at registration, and a payment plan is available.
