The high school football season will have to wait another hour.
Blue Springs and Fort Osage have joined the growing list of schools who have pushed back the starting time of their season openers from 7 to 8 p.m. because of the triple-digit heat forecast for Friday.
Blue Springs, defending state champions and again ranked No. 1 in the Class 6 state poll, will play host to St. Joseph Central at Peve Stadium at 8 p.m. Friday.
Fort Osage, tied for the No. 2 ranking in Class 5 with Parkway Central, will host Park Hill South at 8 p.m. Friday.
Raytown High School announced Wednesday that Friday’s home opener at Ted Chittwood Stadium with Lee’s Summit would be pushed back to 8 p.m. Raytown South’s game at Park Hill is also being pushed back to 8. Lee’s Summit West’s game at Staley also will start at 8.
On Monday, Truman announced it would delay its season opener Friday against Blue Springs South until 8 p.m. at Independence All-School Stadium on the William Chrisman High School campus. Van Horn’s game against Polo at Truman High School and Oak Grove’s game at Lexington also were pushed back to 8 on Monday.
For the moment William Chrisman’s game at Platte County, Grain Valley’s game at Savannah and Lee’s Summit North’s game at Columbia Hickman are still scheduled for 7 p.m.
