It was a close call, but the William Chrisman girls golf team opened the season with a victory.
Brigit Leutzinger was the medalist with a 42 at the par-30 Drumm Farm Golf Club Executive Course to lead the Bears past North Kansas City 204-205 Thursday.
Jenna Grunner shot 52, Kailee Manley 54 and Kelstin Wilson 56 for the Bears.
“It’s good to start 1-0,” Chrisman coach Jacob Basnight said. “The girls did a good job.”
BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 175, NOTRE DAME DE SION 183: Senior Madison Frerking opened the season with an even-par 36 at Lakewood Oaks Golf Club to lead Blue Springs South to victory Friday.
Other South scores were Tara Thorpe 40, Jordan Rehkow 42, Brooke Howe 57, Alex Eblen 63 and Hadley Wells 67.
“It was the first varsity event for three of the girls, and it was good to get it behind us,” first-year South head coach Ted Linke said.
