    To the editor:
My name is Angela Malone, and I’m announcing that Eileen Weir, Independence City Council member representing the 4th District, is running for mayor.
Eileen and I worked together over the last year through Big Brothers Big Sisters. She has led the effort to increase the number of big and little matches in the Eastern Jackson County area. During the time that I’ve worked with Eileen, I can see her passion for her city displayed, not just with her work on the council, but also her work with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Eileen was elected to the City Council in April 2012. During her time on the council she created the Council Employee Advisory Committee to establish a direct channel of communication between the council and its employees. Also, through building consensus on the council the former Blue Ridge Cinema site on U.S. 40 and Blue Ridge Boulevard is now being redeveloped.
Eileen is looking forward to creating a vision for the future of Independence to achieve goals for families, businesses, and the community. Eileen believes every taxpayer is entitled to open access to elected officials, a safe well-maintained neighborhood, as well as access to high-quality services that are close to home.
The general election for the city will be April 8, 2014.
