  • The key couple of blocks in the busiest part of Noland Road in Independence have been blocked off this morning as Independence police and FBI are on the scene of a suspicious package.
Police spokesman Tom Gentry said police were called at 6:18 a.m. regarding a suspicious package in the parking lot at the Super 8 motel, 4032 Lynn Court, at the busy intersection of Noland and Interstate 70.
A robot sent to look more closely at the package – about the size and shape of an old-fashioned ammunition box, Gentry said – heightened officials’ concerns.
Officials decided to block off Noland from I-70 to 39th Street at mid-morning, and at late morning it was still closed.
