Grain Valley improved to 2-0 in the Missouri River Valley Conference with a 9-0 road victory at Odessa Tuesday.

Eagle singles winners were Nathalia Barr (8-2), Kayelee Smith (8-1), Hannah Wiechmann (8-6), Darby Scharfenkamp (8-2), Chelsea Gabriel (8-0) and Mikki Sickle (8-2). They also teamed up for 8-1, 8-0 and 8-0 doubles victories.

“It was a good night,” Grain Valley coach Randy Draper said.

The Eagles also prevailed in the junior varsity match, 6-3.

RAYMORE-PECULIAR 6, FORT OSAGE 3: The Indians couldn’t recover from five singles losses.

Maranda Harris (10-8) was the only singles winner. She and Micah Neale (8-6), plus Emily Shinoda and Arti Church (8-6), were the doubles winners.

“Unfortunately, we did not come out and play our best singles today,” Fort Osage coach Jordan Groves said, though he did laud the play of Harris and Shinoda.

LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 9, STALEY 0: The season opening dual resulted in an easy 9-0 Lee’s Summit North victory Tuesday at Staley.

Logan Morrissey (10-4), Camryn Parnell (10-3), Vilune Sestokaite (10-1), Alyson Moore (10-0), Jenny Krause (10-0) and Beta Lear (10-1) prevailed in singles; and Morrissey-Parnell (10-0), Krause-Moore (10-2) and Sestokaite-Lear (10-0) posted the North doubles victories.

“It was a great start to the season for the Broncos,” North coach Stu Reece said. “All of the girls put a lot of work in during the offseason, and I was pleased to see how well it showed to open the season.”

North was a 7-2 junior varsity winner.
