Dylan Doss’s goal, a header off Brandon Shipman’s free kick just 25 seconds into the game, stood up for a 1-0 victory Thursday night at Park Hill.
Joel Gilbert recorded his second consecutive shutout and third in five games, aided by back-liners James Rusk, Ria Lefholz, David Finch and Tarrek Alkahteeb.
“They played well,” Blue Springs coach Mike Palermo said after his team improved to 2-2. “I almost had a heart attack that we went that long without scoring again.”
The junior varsity game went to Park Hill 3-0.
GRAIN VALLEY 2, PLEASANT HILL 0: Grain Valley improved to 5-1 with the Missouri River Valley Conference West victory on goals by Jake Desselle and Michael Pellham.
David Mullen recorded the shutout as the Eagles improved to 2-0 in the conference.
WINNETONKA 4, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 2: Winnetonka handed the Bears their first loss in three games. Michael Scherer and Cesar Palomino scored the Chrisman goals.
Winnetonka was a 1-0 junior varsity winner.
ROCKHURST 8, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 0: Perennial power Rockhurst was too much for Blue Springs South in the second round of the South tournament.
“It was 2-0 at halftime and got ugly in the second half,” South coach Jon Grice said.
