  • Jaguars runner-up to Broncos at Independence Invite

  • James Poole and Eric Horn finished 1-2 in Friday’s 1-meter diving to get Blue Springs South started in what ended up being a second-place finish at the weekend’s Independence Invitational.
    Poole finished with a score of 348.55 and Horn 314.95 for the Jaguars, who finished with 245 points. Lee’s Summit North, led by four-time winner Ethan Bresette, tallied 357 points to top the 21-team field at the Henley Aquatic Center.
    Connor Gregston had South’s other first-place finish, claiming the 100-yard backstroke in 57.23 seconds. Other second-place finishes for the Jaguars came from Jack Pluenneke in the 200 freestyle (1:50.07), Gregston in the 100 butterfly (56.14) and 400 free relay of Dominic Baber, Pluenneke, Connor Dillon and Gregston (3:24.84).
    The 200 medley relay of Pluenneke, Garrett Edwards, Gregston and Dillon was fourth in 1:48.01; fifths came from Pluenneke in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.13) and Ben Morgan in the 500 free (5:32.94); Dillon chipped in an eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:13.88); and the 200 free relay was ninth (1:42.6).
    Bresette claimed the 100 fly in 54 seconds-flat and the 200 free in 1:46.74. He also anchored the 200 free relay (1:31.89) and 400 free relay (3:20.7) squads. Michael Hynes, Zach Littell and James White joined in the 200 relay; Hynes, Thomas Reilly and White swam in the 400 relay.
    Other Lee’s Summit North winners were Josh Littell in the 200 IM (2:04.57) and Reilly in the 500 free (5:03.57). Hynes was second in the 100 free (48.99) and fourth in the 50 free (23.02); Zach Littell third in the 100 fly (57.7); White third in the 50 free (22.89); Brennan Dooley third in diving (287.6) and Josh Littell fifth in the 100 free (51.79). The 200 medley relay squad of Reilly, Alec Benefiel, Zach Littell and Mitchell Zimmerman also took fifth (1:48.89).
    OZARKS INVITATIONAL: Jacob Raines claimed third in the 100-yard breastroke in 1 minute, 33.22 seconds and seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:08.88) to pace Blue Springs’ eighth-place finish at the 18-team Ozarks Invitational.
    Defending state champion Rockhurst (492 points) nearly doubled Park Hill South to claim the title.
    Other top-10 individuals were Reagan Jett in the 100 fly (sixth, 57.25) and Drew Coleman in the 100 free (ninth, 53.75). The Wildcats sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:48.22), seventh in the 400 free relay (3:37.73) and eighth in the 200 free relay (1:42.95).
