The Blue Springs girls golf team had a strong performance Monday but could only manage a fifth-place finish in the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Classic.
Mariah Peters fired a 76 as the Wildcats posted a 346 team total at the par-70 Sedalia Country Club to finish behind Notre Dame de Sion (333), Sedalia Sacred Heart (336), Columbia Rock Bridge (338) and Warrensburg (341).
Peters finished third, one stroke behind co-medalists Olivia Sobaski and Alex Bankovich, while Jailyn Marshall earned a 12th-place medal with an 84.
Mady Acers (89), Kalli Wood (97) and Hannah Reynolds (98) completed the scoring for Blue Springs.
“I was happy with our team performance,” Wildcats coach Jill Courter said. “Mariah and Jailyn have been very consistent so far this season, and it was great to see freshman Mady Acers break 90 in a tournament. Our two seniors (Wood and Reynolds) played close to their best round ever as well. I thought we scored really well as a team, but … I think the competition is tougher this year with lower scores overall.”
