Swimming back-to-back events didn’t slow down Blue Springs South’s Connor Gregston Tuesday.
Gregston won both events, the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 freestyle, to lead the Jaguars to a sweep in a six-team meet at the Blue Springs YMCA.
Gregston even turned in a state qualifying time (50.40 seconds) – as did runner-up Jack Pluenneke (50.42) – in the second event, the 100 freestyle. Gregston nearly got a state time (56.49) in the butterfly too with a 57.02.
South defeated Liberty (165-147), St. Joseph Central (201.5-103.5), Pembroke Hill (238-47), O’Hara (248-22) and Marshall (235-39).
Diver James Poole continued his strong season, winning with a state cut score of 214.65, while runner-up Eric Horn also surpassed the state cut of 210 with a 211.90.
Connor Dillon scored South’s only other individual win in the 200 freestyle (1:53.34). He also teamed with Pluenneke, Gregston and Stephen Ivey for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:46.07) and combined with Gregston, Pluenneke and Dominic Baber for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.67).
