  • Truman volleyball takes sting out of Hornets

  • Lexi Hart’s 14 kills paced Truman’s volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-15 Suburban Middle Six home win over North Kansas City on Monday.
    Bri Savidge slapped four kills for the Patriots, who improved to 15-5-1. Becca Jonas (ace, 5 assists) and Allie Webb added three kills each, Dani Skoch dished out 15 assists.
    GRAIN VALLEY 14-26-25, PLEASANT HILL 25-24-20: Grain Valley posted a key Missouri River Valley Conference West victory at Pleasant Hill as Jordan Morrison had 21 kills and Devan Fairfield posted 19 digs.
    “It was a big win for us in conference” Grain Valley coach Keri Peterson said. “As a team we were composed and fought hard after struggling in game one. We saw a lot of heart to fight back.”
    The junior varsity match resulted in a 26-16, 26-16 Pleasant Hill victory.
    At Saturday's Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tournament Grain Valley had to be content with second place. The Eagles (11-5) went 4-1 Saturday, falling to Fatima-Westphalia 25-18, 25-18 in the finals.
    Grain Valley defeated Higginsville (25-18, 25-16), Versailles (25-14, 25-17) and the Smith-Cotton junior varsity in pool play. In bracket play, the Eagles downed host Smith-Cotton 23-25, 25-17, 25-22 to advance to the championship.
    Chandler Huttinger had 67 assists, Abby Winter 41 assists, Fairfield 44 digs and 22 kills and Morrison 34 kills to lead the Eagles.
