Blue Springs South’s boys soccer team bounced back to go 2-1 in the Smithville Tournament over the weekend.
The Jaguars followed a 2-0 defeat to Harrisonville to down Staley 2-0 on goal by Sam Leech and Sam Derksen. Kyle Findley and Austin Lower each had an assist, and keeper Nick Shafer posted the shutout.
South defeated Smithville 2-1 on goals by Jacob Gowan and Matthew Rockwell. Derksen and Jason Ingram each had an assist for South.
In a 3-1 win over Liberty Monday night, Findley, Gowan and Brett Hill each scored a goal Monday to lead the Jaguars to a key Suburban Big Six victory.
“It was a great win for us,” South coach Jon Grice said after his team improved to 8-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big Six.
FORT OSAGE 1, NORTH KANSAS CITY 0: Richmond Forbis’ goal in the 31st minute on a C.J. Chavez assist was all the host Indians needed for the Suburban Middle Seven victory. Matt Summey recorded the shutout.
“It was a good game,” Indians coach Andrew Fletcher said. “Northtown made things difficult for us, but we continued to create scoring chances. I was pleased with the way we played.”
FAITH BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE MIDWEST HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL: Tri-City Christian finished in fifth place with 2-0 win over Plaza Heights, as Grant Guinn headed in a cross from David Ruiz in the first half and Seth Sanders scored on a breakaway after halftime.
Earlier, Tri-City lost to Schaumburg Christian (2-0) and Owatonna (2-1). Ruiz scored off a Sanders cross against Owatonna. Sanders was named to the all-tournament team. Alex Anderson had 16 saves in goal in the tournament and Easton Jones three for Tri-City (6-3).
