  • An attempted burglary north of Oak Grove Thursday afternoon resulted in a woman being shot and two suspects in custody.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was called to burglary in progress at a home in the 40200 block of East Campbell Road in unincorporated Jackson County north of Oak Grove at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday.
A man and woman allegedly burglarizing the home were seen and confronted by a man who is a relative of the homeowner. The relative told police that as the suspects were leaving, they attempted to run him over in their vehicle, and he shot toward the suspects.
Later a deputy near Interstate 70 and Missouri 291 saw the suspects’ vehicle heading north on Missouri 291 in Independence. After a short chase, the deputy stopped the vehicle and arrested the male suspect.
A local hospital informed the Sheriff’s Office at the same time that a woman had been dropped off there with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound shortly before the male suspect was apprehended.
“We have been able to confirm the female was involved in the burglary,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ronda Montgomery said. “Therefore, both suspects are in custody.”
The male suspect and the man who fired his gun at the suspects were not injured, Montgomery said.
