Truman’s girls tennis team advanced to the second round of Class 2 District 14 play Monday on the strength of four singles wins.

The Patriots’ Courtney Martin and Shelby Calfas defeated Arti Church and Emily Shinoda, respectively, by twin 6-4, 6-3 margins. Emma Fuller downed Fort Osage’s Ashley Hahne 6-1, 6-2, and Madison Gram outlasted the Indians’ Maranda Harris 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Fort Osage got singles wins from Elizabeth Shade over Holly Shultz (4-6, 6-0, 6-3) and Jessica Willey over Lucy Wray (6-3, 6-3).

In doubles play, Martin and Fuller defeated Church and Harris 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the Patriots’ win and halt the other two doubles matches early.

Truman will face Lee’s Summit North at 3:30 p.m. in today’s semifinals.
