  • Renaissance Festival winding down

  • This is the final weekend of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs. The annual event concludes with Oktoberfest and Harvest Huzzah Weekend. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday(rain or shine). The last day is Monday, Columbus Day, when it's open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Wander through the village of Canterbury and indulge in German wares and authentic food from local vendors. German street characters, Hansel and Gretel, will interact with patrons, and play games with children. All those fit for a challenge can fill their belly at the free Beer Sausage Eating Competition. You may also test your strength at the free Keg Toss Competition (not for the faint of heart).
    On Oct. 14, take part in a Magic the Gathering Tournament at 11:30 a.m. Players will have a chance to win prizes provided by The Basement. Following this event, grab your stein for a sampling of a variety of ales, which can be found at the Groggy Star Fish’s Beer Garden.
    Admission is $19.95 for adults; $17.50 for seniors; and $10.95 for ages 5 to 12; ages 4 and under is free; and dogs are $10 with registration. Discount tickets are sold at participating Walgreens, Hy--Vee and Gold’s Gym. For more information, visit www.kcrenfest.com or call 913-721-2110.
