Two Independence business groups are trying something new next week, a party for people to shake hands and sample locally made foods and other products.
Jodi Krantz, vice president of economic development for the Independence Council for Economic Development, said the new “Independence – Real People, Real Progress” slogan led to an idea – a progressive party. The idea is to go from spot to spot and sample everything available.
The Real People Real Progess-ive Party is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Independence Chamber of Commerce office at 210 W. Truman Road, just north of the Square. It’s free and open to the public.
“We want people to come and see what we do,” Krantz said.
The EDC, for example, runs the Independence Ennovation Center, and some of the food companies that the business incubator will have their products on hand. Visitors can expect funnel fries, desserts, Missouri wines, barbecue, root beer, coffee, sliders, brewed beverages and even a three-minute massage. There is a raffle in support of the Community Services League, and door prizes range up to a 32-inch TV.
