  • The Rev. John L. Bell, a composer and ordained minister in the Church of Scotland, speaks during last weekend's annual Community of Christ Peace Colloquy in Independence.
He spoke to about 1,000 people Friday night at the Temple when he was given the International Peace Award. Bell and his Iona Community in Scotland have about a dozen hymns in the church's new hymnal, which also was released last weekend.
The award comes with $20,000, which Bell is splitting among the Campaign Against Arms, Medical Aid for Palestinians, the New Life Church and Marion School in Nepal and the Natonal Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns.
