  • The Missouri Mavericks will be without forward Colt King and defenseman Dave Pszenyczny for the next three games following suspensions handed down Tuesday by the Central Hockey League for their role in Saturday night's 4-1 win at Arizona that featured 140 minutes of penalties.
The two alternate captains will miss tonight's game in St. Charles, Friday's game at Tulsa and Saturday's home opener against Denver at the Independence Events Center.
Arizona forward Sebastian Geoffrion and defenseman Justin Pender have also been suspended for three games. Both organizations have been fined an undisclosed amount of money.
The CHL released the following explanation: “King was suspended for receiving a fighting aggressor penalty before the start of the third period. He was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct while Pszenyczny received a fighting major penalty and a secondary altercation infraction, also before the start of the third period.
“Geoffrion was suspended for a secondary fighting altercation before the start of the third period and Pender was suspended for a cross checking major penalty at the end of the second period and for physical abuse of officials.”
Missouri coach Scott Hillman said team president Brent Thiessen had talked with league officials on Tuesday and that the team would not appeal the suspensions.
“Their players took total liberties with our players, and Kinger and Chezy were simply protecting their teammates,” Hillman said late Tuesday night. “Obviously we do not condone incidents like the ones that took place on Saturday night and we hope not to see this again, but as always, we fully back our players, knowing that they were defending their teammates.
“I know that we have a physical presence on the ice this year that we have not had in the past. They are leaders on this team, but we will find a way to play without them.”
Hillman added that everyone in the organization is disappointed the two players will miss the home opener.
“I know how disappointed they are going to be to miss the next three games,” the coach said, “especially the home opener Saturday night.”
