  • The Fort Osage boys soccer team came through when it counted.
C.J. Chavez and Hayden Baumgartner each scored a goal to carry the Indians to a 2-1 victory over host North Kansas City Thursday and clinch a share of the Suburban Middle Seven conference title.
Northtown took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game. Chavez, on a Pier Cassiraghi assist, tied it in the 31st minute.
Richmond Forbis then assisted on the game-winning goal by Baumgartner in the 61st minute as Fort Osage improved to 15-6 overall and finished 10-2 in the conference.
“It was very exciting,” Indians coach Andrew Fletcher said of Fort Osage’s second title in three years. “The boys were down after losing to Staley Tuesday. The way they played today was terrific. We deserved to win.”
Staley defeated Raytown 3-0 Thursday night to gain a share of the title.
Fort Osage and North Kansas City meet again at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Osage in a Class 3 District 15 game.
GRAIN VALLEY 4, OAK GROVE 0: Jake Desselle scored three goals as visiting Grain Valley clinched a share of the Missouri River Valley Conference title with a win at Oak Grove Friday night.
Grain Valley (16-3, 9-1) also received a goal from Michael Pellham on a penalty kick and assists from Blake Desselle and Alex Thiessen. David Mullens recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday night against Warrensburg in district play.
BELTON 3, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 0: William Chrisman finished 4-14 overall and 1-11 in Suburban Middle Seven play with a shutout home loss to Belton Friday.
“We came out flat in the first half and Belton took advantage of it,” Chrisman coach John Straub said of the Pirates, who took a 2-0 halftime lead.
