The Fort Osage boys soccer team came through when it counted.

C.J. Chavez and Hayden Baumgartner each scored a goal to carry the Indians to a 2-1 victory over host North Kansas City Thursday and clinch a share of the Suburban Middle Seven conference title.

Northtown took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game. Chavez, on a Pier Cassiraghi assist, tied it in the 31st minute.

Richmond Forbis then assisted on the game-winning goal by Baumgartner in the 61st minute as Fort Osage improved to 15-6 overall and finished 10-2 in the conference.

“It was very exciting,” Indians coach Andrew Fletcher said of Fort Osage’s second title in three years. “The boys were down after losing to Staley Tuesday. The way they played today was terrific. We deserved to win.”

Staley defeated Raytown 3-0 Thursday night to gain a share of the title.

Fort Osage and North Kansas City meet again at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Osage in a Class 3 District 15 game.
