LIBERTY NORTH 6, VAN HORN 0: A 10-13-1 Van Horn season ended with a loss in the Class 2 District 15 tournament at Kearney. The Eagles rang up a 5-0 halftime lead.
“They scored in bunches in the first half,” Van Horn coach Greg Millick said. “We sat back a lot just because we knew we didn’t have the horses to run with them. They came at us hard, we fended them off, and then they got a couple balls in the box and scored.
“We thought we’d weathered the storm, but they popped in three real quick. We played harder in the second half. It just wasn’t our night. (Goalkeeper) Blair Fink (six saves) did everything he could to keep the ball out of the net.”
On Saturday, the Falcons routed Kansas City Northeast 5-1 in the district opener.
Angel Delgado scored two goals and Alexis Marquez, Mike Payne and Allen Goin added one each to lift Van Horn. Marquez also had two assists.
