An Independence woman faces multiple charges of theft in trying to deceitfully rent a home in Blue Springs.
Amanda S. Paris, 44, was charged Tuesday with six counts of stealing by deceit, a Class C felony.
According to court records, several potential home renters contacted Paris in response to a Craigslist ad to rent a house in the 1300 block of Northeast Quail Walk Drive in Blue Springs. Paris did not own the home and lived there through a rental agreement, which stipulated that she was not to sublet the home.
Blue Springs police say Paris allegedly took nearly $10,000 in deposits and future rent payments from several prospective renters between Aug. 7 and Sept. 8. Several of the victims identified her to police as the person they gave payments to.
Paris has been arrested and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has requested a cash bond of $25,000.
Blue Springs police are asking if anyone else gave payments to Paris to contact Sgt. Joe Fanara at 816-228-0153.
