Independence police have released a photo of a man being sought in connection with a home invasion on Park Avenue on Nov. 2.
The man is Benjamin J. Edenfield, 33. He’s described as 5-foot-11 and 140 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He is believed to be in the metro area.
A Raytown man, John D. Pierson, 26, has been charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary in the invasion, which happened in the 800 block of South Park, in central Independence. One of the home’s residents shot Pierson in the abdomen with a shotgun, and the second suspect fled.
According to court documents, two men forced their way into the house and physically assaulted the two men who lived there. They demanded pills and robbed one man of $150 in cash and his cell phone.
One victim told Pierson and the other intruder that he would get them what they wanted and was allowed to go into his bedroom unescorted. He returned with a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and shot Pierson while the men stood in the hallway near the other man’s bedroom door. The second intruder fled.
When police arrived, Pierson was apprehended and taken to a hospital. The two residents of the house were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Anyone with information that can help locate Edenfield or help the investigation is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or Independence Police at 816-325-7852 or 816-325-7330.
