Laykovich, 22, was the victim of an overnight stabbing July 27 near the 3900 block of Crackerneck Road in Independence. After being dropped off nearby by friends, Laykovich reportedly said he was going to the nearby QuikTrip, but whether he made it there is unclear. He returned home at about 2 a.m. after suffering the stab wound and soon was rushed to a local hospital, where he died the next day.
Laykovich’s mother, Michelle Metje, has contributed $4,000 to the reward fund. At a September book fair in Blue Springs, Metje said she would be donating proceeds from her book “The China Cabinet,” a collection of personal memories and life lessons published a year ago, toward the reward fund.
