A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with a Nov. 2 home invasion in Independence.
Benjamin J. Edenfield, 33, faces charges of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. His bond was set at $150,000, secured or 10 percent.
Independence police spokesman Tom Gentry said Edenfield was arrested in Raytown at 11:45 p.m. Sunday and held on the Independence warrant.
Police had been looking for him since the home invasion in the 800 block of South Park, in central Independence.
A Raytown man, John D. Pierson, 26, was charged earlier, also with first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary in the invasion. He was arrested in the house after one of the residents shot him in the abdomen with a shotgun. The second intruder, allegedly Edenfield, fled.
According to court documents, two men forced their way into the house and physically assaulted the two men who lived there. They demanded pills and robbed one man of $150 in cash and his cell phone.
One victim told the intruders that he would get them what they wanted and was allowed to go into his bedroom unescorted. He returned with a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and shot Pierson while the men stood in the hallway near the other man’s bedroom door.
Pierson was taken to a hospital and is recuperating. The two residents of the house were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
