Hekzebiah Hawkins creates Sadie Hawkins Day

Not a real holiday, Sadie Hawkins Day was invented by Hekzebiah Hawkins whose daughter was "the homeliest gal in the hills." Al Capp's "Lil' Abner" comic strip debuted Hawkins' new holiday, which allowed girls to do the asking one day a year, on November 15, 1937.
