Free doctor checkup, free self defense instruction and free chair massages.
All of these free offerings, along with others, will be provided during the city of Independence Health Department and Independence School District’s Free Health and Wellness Expo. The event will be held Nov. 19 - this upcoming Tuesday evening - at James Bridger Middle School on 23rd Street and Speck Road in Independence.
From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., families will be able to receive a multitude of medical screenings that cover a person from head to toe. These include Tdap immunizations, BMI assessments, blood pressure checks and glucose, foot, postural screenings.
Physicians will also be available at the expo for one-on-one discussions regarding your overall health.
Not only your physical health will benefit, but your mind as well. Before and after receiving your exam, you can attend a mini self defense course, learn about stress management techniques and even take financial tips from experts. Plus if you attend the self defense instruction, you will be eligible to receive a complementary chair massage.
And on top of all those services, entertainment and raffles for prizes such as iPod Nanos, Kindle Fires and smoke dectectors will also be offered.
This is the first out of three expos that will be taking place. The remaining expos will be located at Van Horn and William Chrisman High Schools later in the spring. Exact times and dates will be announced in advance.
