The GFWC Nu-Era Study Club, member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, will meet at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 4 at the home of Colleen Riggs of Independence. Co-hostesses will be Pat Reynolds and Trish Terry.

The program will be presented by Rebecca Miller from the Missouri Conservation Department. Her topic will be, “Attracting winter song birds.” Trish Shelton, president, will conduct the business meeting.

Members are to bring a salad or dessert for the potluck following the meeting. Items are also to be brought for Della Lamb.

Since no service project has been planned for December, it was suggested we support the Christmas project of providing gifts for some of the 175 long term care residents at Truman Medical Center East. The Club voted to adopt two ladies with a $50 each Christmas gift.

During the November meeting, they met at the home of Beverly Shelton, with Bonnie Balmer and Burdina Bobbitt as co-hostesses.

The guest speaker was Doug McCrary, who worked on the operations side of Hallmark Cards and is very familiar with the history of the Hallmark family, their service to the Kansas City area, and Hallmark greeting cards. Sue Foley, president of the GFWC Second District, was also a guest. Trish Shelton, club president, presided over the business meeting.

Peggy Wardlow was welcomed as a new member at the October meeting. Twenty-three members worked on the Oct. 16 service project, Harvester’s “Check Out Hunger,” at the home of Sandy Dennis in Lee’s Summit. The November service project was volunteering Nov. 14 at the Hillcrest Thrift Store in Lee’s Summit. The Bunco party on Oct. 9 was hosted by Linda Cocks and netted $405.

Club members attending the 7-state Mississippi Valley Regional conference in Rapid City, S.D., Sept. 27 through 29 were Kathy Palermo and Nancy Carson. Club members attending the 60th anniversary open house at Missouri Girls Town in Kingdom City were Palermo, Carson, Sue Hancock and Sue Harris.
