Blue Springs graduate Lisa Henning was one of four Missouri volleyball players named to the All-Southeastern Conference first team Monday, while in football, Fort Osage graduate E.J. Gaines was named co-defensive player of the week after helping fifth-ranked Missouri beat Texas A&M 28-21 to win the East Division and earn a spot in Saturday’s conference title game.

Henning, the school’s all-time kills leader and a two-time All-American, was named All-SEC for a third-straight year. She slapped 472 kills on a career-best .339 hitting percentage to help the fourth-ranked Tigers sweep through the SEC and achieve a 34-0 season. She was joined by teammates Molly Kreklow (setter, league player of the year), Carly Kan (outside hitter, freshman of the year) and Whitney Little (middle blocker), while Wayne Kreklow was named coach of the year.

Gaines registered six tackles and limited Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans to four catches for just 8 yards. Evans had been averaging 119.5 receiving yards with 12 touchdown catches. Despite missing more than two games due to injury, Gaines has a team-high four interceptions this season and is third-highest with 59 tackles.

The last time Gaines was a player of the week, he had 10 tackles and four pass breakups in Missouri’s overtime win over Texas A&M in 2011.
