  • Both teams got seven wins, but Blue Springs South’s wrestlers did so in slightly better fashion to earn a 41-40 win Tuesday over Raytown.
Getting pins for South were Seth McLain at 120 pounds (1:20 over Matt Shapley), Sam Hampton at 132 (3:22 over Brett Konomas), Sam Jackson at 138 (:53 over Kevin Thomas), Wyatt Parker at 182 (5:02 over Ben Evans) and Cole West at 285 (1:09 over Johnny Chappel). Dalton Kenig racked up a 16-0 technical fall over Cameron Allen at 126 pounds, and Christian Boyles (220) won by forfeit.
“We knew coming into the dual that it would be a dog fight and that our kids had better be mentally prepared to go to battle with them,” South coach Doug Black said. “We made several costly mistakes that cost us matches tonight, and we need to make corrections. Have to give Raytown credit, as they came out and put it all on the line, which is exactly what we expect our kids to do.”
Raytown got pins from Sergio Orozco (106 pounds), Elias Hamcaoui (113), Austin Hardiman (152) and Brandon White (195), a major decision from Braden Best (160) and forfeits at 145 and 170.
South is at the Park Hill tournament this weekend.
“I’m looking for somebody to step up and take the reigns and be a leader of the team,” Black said.
