The man who died as a result of an officer-involved shooting has been identified.

Independence police say the suspect who is dead after confronting two police officers with a handgun Thursday night is George D. Reynolds, 49, of Independence.

On Thursday night at 8:41 p.m., Independence police responded to a domestic disturbance call on the 1600 block of Swope Drive.

Two officers arrived at the scene and they were allowed inside the residence, according to Independence police spokesperson Tom Gentry.

Gentry said that Reynolds confronted the two officers with a hangun once they stepped inside the house. Officers fired at Reynolds, who died at the scene.

As per department policy, Gentry said the officers involved are on administrative leave pending investigation of the incident.
