Community Services League needs your donations to ensure less fortunate children in eastern Jackson County receive presents on Christmas morning.
Two Christmas concerts are being held in both Blue Springs and Independence on Sunday afternoon to benefit CSL in order to provide presents and meal boxes for local families in need this holiday season.
“We can all remember our childhood nervousness on Christmas Eve as we waited to see what Santa would bring,” said CSL spokesperson Dena Morrison. “To imagine a child that may not experience that joy is heartbreaking. With your help, it will be a joyous Christmas for all families in our area.”
The 15th annual Blue Springs Spirit of Caring Concert begins Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Barbara Landes Performing Arts Center in Blue Springs South High School, 1200 S.E. Adams Dairy Parkway. The concert will feature a variety of seven musical acts from both the Blue Springs community and school district such as the Blue Springs South High School drumline and elementary school choirs.
Mayor Carson Ross will emcee the event and admission is $5. All ticket proceeds will go toward Blue Springs CSL efforts.
On the same day, the 28th annual Independence Mayor’s Christmas Concert will start at 2:30 p.m. inside the Community of Christ Auditorium on 1001 West Walnut Street.
More than 800 fourth graders from the Independence school district, Messiah Lutheran School, Center Place Restoration and Nativity of Mary School will be singing contemporary and traditional Christmas songs. Fort Osage and William Chrisman High School concert choirs also will be performing. Plus the Spirit of Independence Band and Young MAIsterSingers will top off the event. Independence's Dick Wilson of KCMO radio (94.9 FM) will be the host.
Admission is free and a free-will offering will be collected during the event
CSL expects to deliver more than 7,500 Christmas gifts to local children and more than 2,000 meal boxes for families that include turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables and dessert.
Attending either one of these concerts will enable CSL to obtain the resources to provide both presents and meals for those in need.
