  • Dixie Ryan: A spot of summer brightens a December trip

  • We had a great time in Branson and I am happy, happy, happy. We have had so much cold weather and I ask GOD to bless us with nice weather. It was 55 to 67 degrees every day and we had no precipitation.
    The day after we returned we had bad weather and freezing temperatures. Now you know why I am happy. God loved us enough to give us a three-day summer and it was great.
    To add to the happiness we had our favorite driver, Eddie. He is incredible and also added to the crew our pastor, Bret Pritchard went on the trip. He is truly awesome and we so appreciated him. He always thinks of others and is funny, happy and has a great singing voice. He led the bus in Christmas carols as we drove through the Christmas lights.
    All of our food was fantastic, the shows were good, we visited the College of the Ozarks which is always a treat and we ate at the Baer House on the way home. The greatest thing we did (for my choice) was a visit to the Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs early one morning..
    When I arrived home (just a day or so later) I had a new washer and dryer delivered and installed and now we are down to one bathroom and I will be done remodeling.
    For Thanksgiving, which took place just a few days prior to our departure for Branson, I thanked GOD for HIS blessings and what a wonderful time that was. He has blessed me, held my hand, carried me and I praise HIM for it all.
    I got home and decided to make some breads for Christmas gifts. I tried to use a bit of each recipe for a tiny loaf for me to sample. Try making some breads for friends and perhaps you know someone who is alone. What a great gift! A small loaf of bread, little jar with some jam and a visit for a short while for someone who is lonely.
    Blueberry Bread
    1 to 2 cups blueberries
    1/2 cup orange juice
    2 Tablespoons butter
    1/4 cup hot water
    1 egg
    1 cup sugar
    2 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    Mix all ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for one hour.
    Monkey Rolls
    4 tubes (10 to each) biscuits
    Cinnamon
    White sugar
    1 stick margarine
    1 cup brown sugar
    Quarter each tube of biscuits (to make 40 pieces each tube, 160 in all. Mix together enough cinnamon and sugar to cover each piece of biscuit. Put into greased bundt pan overlapping each one and stacking up. Melt margarine, add 1 cup of brown sugar and bring to boil for 1 minute. Pour this mixture over cup up biscuits. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
