Cameron outscored the Fort Osage girls basketball team 28-20 in the second half to secure a 63-49 consolation bracket victory Wednesday in the Liberty North Invitational.
“We have to defend better,” Fort Osage coach Dawn Williams said. “We are giving up way too many points.”
Raven Bunn scored 16 points to lead Fort Osage (1-3). Siera Glassford added 10.
The Indians meet the Pembroke Hill-Platte County loser in the seventh-place game at 4 p.m. Friday
ODESSA 41, OAK GROVE 34: Odessa outscored Oak Grove’s girls team 7-0 in the four minute overtime for the consolation bracket victory in the Husker Classic at Higginsville Wednesday night.
“The kids really played hard,” Oak Grove coach Mike Cox said. “They gave it all they had.”
Devonn Ritchie hit a 3-pointer to give Oak Grove (1-4) a 35-32 lead late in the game. But Odessa forced the overtime by hitting a game-tying three.
Emily Craig had 13 points and Easton Harmon nine in pacing the Panthers, who meet the O’Hara-Lexington loser for seventh place at 6 p.m. Friday. Craig was Oak Grove’s fourth different leading scorer in five games.
VAN HORN 61, NORTHEAST 19: Van Horn rolled to win over Kansas City Northeast to even its girls basketball record at 2-2.
The Falcons were never threatened Tuesday night at Northeast as Malaea Ortiz fired in 19 points and Erica Harris 16.
“We’re getting better,” Van Horn coach Scorpio Horn said.
KNOB NOSTER 59, VAN HORN 46: The second quarter proved costly for the Van Horn boys basketball team Tuesday night against Knob Noster.
The Falcons were outscored 19-6 in the quarter and fell into a 34-21 halftime deficit from which they never recovered.
Tony Winningham’s 19 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and Isaiah Gotsis’ 12 led the way as Van Horn fell to 2-2. A strong Knob Noster team had four players in double figures paced by Hayden Anderson’s 18.
