  • Chapel Hill Presbyterian choir set for cantata
    The Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church adult choir will present its Christmas cantata, “The Heart of Christmas,” during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 22. The children’s choir will join in on some of the songs.
    The 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve family service will feature the Nativity tableau by the church members. At 11 p.m., there will be a candlelight service with communion.

    Two Christmas Eve services at Trinity Episcopal
    Trinity Episcopal Church will have services at 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Christmas Eve.
    A music program called “A Joyous Prelude” begins at 10:30 p.m., with music from the senior choir, soloists from the UMKC Conservatory of Music, and familiar carols sung by the congregation.

    As an offering, bring blankets for the homeless
    The First Christian Church of Blue Springs will celebrate Christmas Eve with services at 6:30 and 11 p.m., 701 N. 15th St.
    The 6:30 service will be a lively, family service. The choir will present the cantata “A Candlelight Christmas” at the 11 p.m. traditional candlelight service.
    Blankets for the homeless will be collected as the offering. For more information, call 816-229-8400.
    Biscuits and gravy at Northern Boulevard United Methodist
    Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church will hold a biscuits-and-gravy breakfast and purse sale from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 21), at the church, which is at the west end of Englewood at the intersection of Winner Road, 18th Street and Northern Boulevard in Independence.
    The church will serve all-you-can-eat biscuits and gravy for $5.

    Christmas at Trinity Presbyterian
    Trinity Presbyterian Church in Independence has the following events:
    • Sunday, 10:30 a.m., children’s pageant: “A Four-Footed Christmas.”
    • On Christmas Eve, at 10 p.m., gather for fellowship around the wassail bowl and for an 11 p.m. candlelight service.

    Film and faith at Church of the Resurrection
    “The Real Christmas Story” is the current sermon series at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.
    The church, based in Leawood, has a campus at 601 E. Jefferson, Blue Springs. Worship is at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sundays. Nursery care for children from birth through age 3 is available, and Sunday school is for children age 4 through the fifth grade during services. All are invited for coffee before worship near the east entrance.

    ‘Jesus is Born’ is Sunday’s message at Stone Church
    Terry Snapp will speak on the theme “Jesus Is Born” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service on Sunday (Dec. 22) at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Snapp is in his fifth year as the congregation’s presiding pastor at Stone Church.
    A Christmas Eve service will be held at 7 p.m. and will feature the Ancora Chorale and the Center Place Singers.

    Christmas events at Glenwood Park United Methodist
    Glenwood Park United Methodist Church plans several activities.

    • Christmas Eve, 6 p.m., “Jazzy Christmas” featuring Carol and The Gang and Kansas City musicians.

    Christmas Eve service at Eastgate Christian
    Eastgate Christian Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. with Christmas music, a meditation by Rev. Joshua Patty, a living nativity, the Lord’s supper, and a candlelight singing of “Silent Night.”

    ‘The Other Wise Man’ offered as a dramatic reading
    Elder Jean Pement will deliver a dramatic reading based on “The Other Wise Man,” by Henry Van Dyke, to observe the “Jesus is Born” theme for the fourth Sunday of Advent (Dec. 22) at the Groves Community of Christ congregation.
    Jean, an active member of The Groves congregation, taught English, speech and drama in Independence.
    A Christmas Eve candlelight communion service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of the 1515 W. White Oak building, Independence. All are welcome.
    Traditional and contemporary at Cornerstone Church
    Cornerstone Church will hold a Christmas Eve and candlelight service at 5 and 6:30 p.m. with a traditional service, as well as contemporary worship, Scripture readings and communion.
    There will be a children’s ministry for those 3 years old and younger. The church is at 301 S.E. Route AA, Blue Springs.
    Christmas Eve at Church on the Rock
    Church on the Rock Outreach Center will hold a candlelighting service at 9 p.m. Christmas Eve, 1700 S.W. Market St., Lee’s Summit. For more information, call 816-246-7625.

    Calvary Baptist Church will hold a New Year’s Eve gospel sing from 6 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31.
    The church is at 900 N.W. 22nd St., Blue Springs. The event will include several individuals and groups. There will be a break at 8 p.m. for refreshments and fellowship, then the evening continues with music and concludes with 2013 and 2014 testimony and a prayer period.
