Lee’s Summit North held a 27-25 halftime lead but stumbled through the third period in dropping a 63-53 decision to St. James Academy of Lenexa, Kan., Wednesday in the Hy-Vee Shootout at Avila University.
The Thunder outscored the Broncos 16-4 in the third and never let them get closer than eight in the fourth.
“We just had a terrible third quarter primarily because we couldn’t run our offense,” North coach Mike Hilbert said after his team fell to 2-5. “We kept turning it over to them, and they had a bunch of layups. They stretched it to double digits, and we couldn’t get any closer.”
Anthony Lupardus netted 15 points and Caleb Berry 13 to lead the Broncos. Dylan McKee poured in 24 points to pace St. James.
