A close loss didn’t leave Blue Springs South girls swimming and diving coach Errich Oberlander unhappy.

Despite a 98-88 loss to host Park Hill Tuesday, the Jaguars head coach saw plenty of positives as his team won five events.

“We had some really good swims from some of the new girls,” Oberlander said. “Our divers once again did extremely well by taking the top five places.”

Allie Steinhauser won diving with a 208 total followed by teammates Lena Sleyster, Marley Brown, Jennifer Molinaro and Madison Russell.

Bailey Barnett claimed a win in the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 38.18 seconds and second in the 50 freestyle, and she teamed with Sydney Dillon, Maddie Scott and Anna Munoz for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.33). Kadie Clark won the 100 backstroke in 1:09.98, and Kayla Canon tied for first in the 200 individual medley in 2:29.58.

Other second-place finishers for the Jaguars included Murielle Eggers (100 breaststroke), Munoz (100 free), Taylor Branson (100 butterfly) and the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

WILDCATS FALL: Despite losing close decisions to Lee’s Summit and Lee’s Summit West, Blue Springs won seven events Tuesday at the Lee’s Summit Aquatic Center.

The Wildcats, who had several swimmers compete in off events, fell just 162-153 to Lee’s Summit and 168-145 to West. West also topped Lee’s Summit 166-145.

Junior Ashley Sturman led the way for the Wildcats, winning two events. She claimed first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.88 and the 200 freestyle, 2:00.45 – both state cut times.

Lindsey Meyer won the 500 freestyle (5:38.23) and took second in the 200 free. Alex Crookston won the 100 breaststroke (1:20.06), and Mariah Hagerty won diving (203.05) in her first meet of the season. The 200 (1:48.38) and 400 (3:53.24) freestyle relay teams also prevailed.
