  • A police chase†Thursday afternoon started at the Independence Wal-Mart at 4000 S. Bolger Road and ended on Interstate 470 in Leeís Summit.
Independence Police Sgt. Darrell Schmidli says police responded to a call made by the Wal-Mart store reporting a possible shoplift around 4 p.m. According to Schmidli, two suspects were involved: One white female and one white male. He said the female was inside the store once police arrived and was taken into custody. The male, however, was waiting outside in a vehicle, says Schmidli.
He said that once police approached the suspectís vehicle, it fled and headed south on Interstate 470. Soon afterward, the vehicle crashed on the shoulder of the interstate just before the Woods Chapel Road exit in Leeís Summit. Schmidli said no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and that the male†suspect escaped from the wrecked vehicle on foot. The suspect then ran approximately 500 yards before he was apprehended behind a convenience store on Northeast Woods Chapel Road.
Schmidli said were no injuries were reported.
