First Christian Church of Blue Springs will be out in the cold this upcoming weekend.

The 8th Annual Freezin for a Reason will held Jan. 10, 11 and 12. Members of the church will camp outside in order to collect donations and raise awareness of the homeless situation in Kansas City.

For three days and two nights, participating members will camp on the church’s front lawn, located at 701 NW 15th St. in Blue Springs, inside a makeshift shelter built out of salvaged materials such as cardboard, plywood and plastic tarp. They will have no electricity and only use fire barrels to stay warm. The goal of the event is to “Blanket the City” by collecting blankets, coats, hats and gloves. The donations will then be distributed to area homeless agencies.

Monetary donations will be accepted as well and 100 percent of the funds go toward purchasing needed items. For more information about Freezin for a Reason, contact First Christian Church of Blue Springs at 816-229-8400 during regular hours or Bryan Couch at 816-838-4854 or by email at
