The Grain Valley wrestling team won four of its last five matches to secure a win in its Missouri River Valley Conference West opener Thursday.
The Eagles outscored Excelsior Springs 20-6 in that span to post a 44-28 home win over the Tigers.
Wolfgang Clapper (113) started that streak with a pin. Harrison Bamman (120) followed with a 19-4 technical fall, Mavrick Alexander (126) won a decision and Angel Hernandez (138) closed the match with a third-period pin.
Jake Rogers (152) and Parker McBride (170) won decisions, and the Eagles had a 3-1 advantage in forfeits.
OAK GROVE 58, HARRISONVILLE 9: Oak Grove had no problems in its MRVC West opener. The Panthers recorded seven pins and a pair of technical falls to rout Harrisonville at home.
Jet Tryon (113), Shawn Kavadas (126), Skyler Jackson (138), Landon Cairer (152), Tristan Stack (160), Dalton Brinegar (170) and Preston Airington (220) each won by fall. It took Stack just 45 seconds and Brinegar just 52 to pin their opponents.
Connor Brown (106) started the match with a 16-0 tech fall, and Bryce Mercer (145) posted a 16-1 tech fall. Brock Mercer (120) and Tyler Brown (132) each won decisions for the Panthers.
