To the editor:

We note, with regret, that the Mid-Continent Public Library Board is requiring their employees to work on Sundays. Exodus 20: 8-11 is pretty clear on limiting Sunday activities. Whatever your religious beliefs, or not, a day off per week gives one a welcome chance to rest and regroup.

Schools and libraries reflect the standards of the community they serve. We are saddened to see the tax-supported Mid-Continent Public Library bow to a standard that is not worthy of what we like to see offered in our communities: respect for employees; respect for Judeo-Christian values, and respect for the community values as a whole, not just a small segment.

You may wish to contact your Library Board at 816-836-5200 to express your feelings on this issue.
