A fire damaged a residence in the 1100 block of South Savage Street in Independence Wednesday morning.
Independence Fire Battalion Chief David Shelley said the fire occurred at 9:13 a.m. There were no injuries, however. Shelley said that at least one, possibly two, people were home at the time of the fire and called in the emergency.
The fire was mainly confined to the attic, Shelley said, and the house suffered structural damage as a result. Smoke and water damage spread throughout the residence as well.
Shelley said the fire is still under investigation and the cause is yet to be determined.
“We stress that all individuals have working smoke detectors and to change their batteries regularly,” Shelley said of fire prevention in response to this fire.
