  • Two Independence residents were shot and critically wounded early this morning in the driveway of their home.
Independence police say that at 6:22 a.m. they responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the 300 block of Farmer Street, between Osage and Spring a few blocks north of the Square.
“When we got there, we found two individuals laying in the driveway ...” said spokesman Tom Gentry.
The victims are a husband and wife in their 60s. One was able to give police some information before both were taken to a hospital.
Gentry said police surrounded a house nearby and told the man inside to come out, which he did. He was arrested, and police were questioning him at mid-day today.
Although police haven’t determined what led to the shooting, Gentry said, the shooter and victims knew each other.
“Yes, there was some connection and some some dispute between them – some previous dispute,” Gentry said.
