  • Patriots prevail in overtime

  • The Truman boys basketball team literally had to work overtime Tuesday night for a 73-70 first-round victory over Oak Park in the North Kansas City Invitational.
    The teams were tied 55-55 at the end of regulation.
    Dewayne Thornton pumped in a career-high 25 points, Reid Titus added 20, Michael Hernandez nine and Deandre Young eight.
    Truman (5-8) faces Park Hill South or Belton at 6:30 tonight in the semifinals.
    VAN HORN 54, SHERWOOD 52: Sherwood made it interesting, nearly rallying from a 47-31 deficit after three quarters.
    “We held on,” Van Horn coach Daniel Bieser said of Tuesday’s Crossroads Conference road victory.
    Van Horn (5-6, 1-1) was led by Anthony Winningham’s 18 points. Isaiah Gotsis added 12, Jordan Spencer 10 and Samila Sua nine.
