Applications for the Bess Wallace Truman Scholarship, sponsored by the Independence Junior Service League, are due Feb. 13. The scholarship is open to a graduating female high school senior who currently lives in the city of Independence and attends public, private or home school.
The recipient will receive $2,000 for her first year and an annual $1,000 renewal for each of three additional years of college. The scholarship honors the former First Lady and has been awarded since 2000. The applicant must demonstrate academic merit, community service, school involvement and financial need.
